A winning drag racer who built the foundation of his career at U.S. 30 dragstrip in Gary Indiana with his street car, Don Schumacher has proven to be equally formidable as a team owner with the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA).

Don stepped away from driving in 1974 to focus on the family business - Schumacher Electric - but never lost his interest in drag racing. Watching his son, Tony, succeed as a driver on the NHRA circuit, Don began forming his racing network under the Don Schumacher Racing (DSR) moniker and signed his first Top Fuel sponsorship agreement in 1998.

Today, DSR encompasses all four of the NHRA main divisions. ODYSSEY® batteries are used by Team Zipper Air Racing.  Team Zipper entered the air racing arena in 2006 with a Pitts model S1C biplane capable of plus or minus 6 to 8 G’s acceleration. In 2009, they acquired a former racer known as Humm Baby which they rebuilt and renamed ZIPPER II.  The name “ZIPPER” is borrowed from the popular name used worldwide for the Lockheed F104 double sonic jet fighter.  George Andre, team owner and pilot, was one of the test pilots of the F104 and is very proud of that association.
